The LMC revisits the story of the struggle for independence in Western Sahara, one of only 2 regions in Africa where Spanish is spoken. We speak with Sahra Libre (alias) about the continued fight against Moroccan occupation, which has lasted for over 43 years. Sahra Libre is a Sahrawi refugee and activist living in the US. She conducted this interview in an undisclosed location in Morocco in order to circumvent the media blockade.

Sept 14th, 2018: LGBTQ Victory in Trinidad & Tobago
On our first ever episode on Trinidad & Tobago, the LMC speaks with Andre Bagoo about a landmark victory for the local LGBTQ community on striking down colonial-era anti-gay laws. Andre Bagoo is a Trinidadian poet and journalist. He will also discuss the significance of T&T’s first ever pride parade after the court ruling.

Before last year’s hurricane season struck Puerto Rico, the first US territory to be hit hard was the US Virgin Islands. As the controversy over the failed US response to give relief to Puerto Rico continues to unfold, almost no coverage has been given to the 100,000+ Americans in the USVI. The LMC speaks with poet and novelist Tiphanie Yanique about what we need to know about her home islands. Tiphanie Yanique is also an associate professor in the English department at Wesleyan University.
