September 13th, 2019: Paraguay’s Itaipu Dam

Paraguay’s Itaipu Dam was created over half a century ago by an agreement between the fascist dictatorships of Alfredo Stroessner of Paraguay and Emilio Garrastazu Medici of Brazil. Years later, the unequal treaty over the largest hydroelectric dam in the Western Hemisphere remains a source of inequality for the Paraguayan people. So the LMC speaks w Latin American News Dispatch deputy editor Alanna Elder about the Itaipu Dam’s dark history and how it almost led to Paraguayan President Mario Abdo Benitez’ impeachment.
