Sept 28th, 2018: Japanese Peruvians

Most people know about the internment of Japanese-Americans during World War II. However, few people know about a secret US program that kidnapped and imprisoned Japanese Peruvians, taken from Peru to the US. On this episode, the LMC speaks with Mary Jo McConahay about this secret history of Japanese Peruvians, one of the largest Japanese communities in Latin America. Mary Jo McConahay is the author of “The Tango War:The Struggle for the Hearts, Minds, and Riches of Latin America during WWII.”
