On this episode, the LMC spends the hour with human rights attorney German Romero from DH Colombia to discuss some of his cases and threats against his life during the course of his work. Cases include the 2005 massacre in San Jose de Apartado, the case of Claudia Julieta Duque, and the 1985 siege of the Palace of Justice. Unlike other protests that have recently taken place in Chile and Ecuador; the national strike in Colombia is not as clear-cut as one might believe. However, the violent nature of US-backed Colombian president Ivan Duque’s administration is not in question. So the LMC speaks with Pablo Medina Uribe, a freelance journalist and editor-in-chief of ColombiaCheck, to try to understand the Colombian public’s various grievances.
