Unlike other protests that have recently taken place in Chile and Ecuador; the national strike in Colombia is not as clear-cut as one might believe. However, the violent nature of US-backed Colombian president Ivan Duque’s administration is not in question. So the LMC speaks with Pablo Medina Uribe, a freelance journalist and editor-in-chief of ColombiaCheck, to try to understand the Colombian public’s various grievances.

Following public outrage over IMF-sponsored austerity measures, the Ecuadorian people rose up in public outrage and managed to force the government of Lenin Moreno to reverse decision to cut gas subsidies. However, the LMC’s conversation with Andres Arauz suggest that the fight against the IMF in Ecuador has only just begun.
